The brain is a complex organ. It is linked to every single function you do, every second of every day, it doesn’t rest when you sleep. It is busy in the background. Every organ system in your body, through your nervous system, communicates to your brain.

It is therefore essential to make “Brain health” a necessity when creating routines and daily habits to help you express better health.

The great news is that the brain can change. This is called neuroplasticity. Habits, good or bad can be created through consistency.

THINGS YOU CAN DO TO HELP IMPROVE THE HEALTH OF YOUR BRAIN INCLUDE:

🏃‍♂️ Exercise and movement, regularly, ideally daily.

Exercise and movement helps with increasing blood flow to the brain. It helps counter the natural degeneration in neural connections, keeping them stronger for longer.

💤 Get plenty of sleep

Sleep is vital for brain health. Good quality sleep gives your brain time to consolidate and store memories effectively.

📚 Stay mentally active

If you don’t use it you will lose it! Things like reading, puzzles, crosswords, chess and Sudoku are all great. The aim too is to challenge your brain. To get you thinking. Limit passive activity such as too much TV or Netflix binging. This does very little to stimulate your brain.

👯 Socially interact

Social interactions can help with reducing depression and stress. Two things that can both contribute to memory loss. Connection with friends and family is so important. It has been shown that solitary confinement can atrophy (shrink) the brain.

💧 Stay hydrated

Water accounts for 75% of your brain mass. It is very important for humans to maintain the balance of water input and output. Dehydration may affect cognitive performance.

🧠 Get your spine checked and adjusted

A study conducted by the Spinal Research Foundation and published in the Journal of Neural Plasticity shows that chiropractic spinal adjustments significantly increase activity in the brain's prefrontal cortex, the area where higher learning and cognition happen.
