10,000 STEPS - ‘THE MAGIC NUMBER’
For many, 10,000 is a reasonable target because it's ambitious but attainable.
However, depending on your lifestyle, 10,000 may seem discouragingly high.
If you struggle to reach even 5,000, set a lower goal to start and then work your way up. If you are already doing 10,000 set a higher goal. 10,000 is a good benchmark not a magic number. Don’t limit yourself by setting a target.
To find the right goal for yourself, the first thing you need to do is establish a baseline. On an average day, how many steps do you typically take?
A few benefits of regular low intensity exercise (10,000 steps a day), coupled with a healthy diet and lifestyle include:
Reduced blood pressure
More stable blood glucose levels
Better moods
Burning on average 2800-3500 calories a week. (That’s about 1 pound of fat!)
One thing to take home is any progress, no matter how small, is still progress! Keep moving forward. I promise you, you will see the change.
